Scotland

handlettering and film photography

The summer of 2018 my husband and I eloped in Scotland for our ten year anniversary. I’ve been privileged to have traveled throughout most of western Europe, but I have never experienced anything else quite like Scotland. We flew into Glasgow, took a train to Edinburgh, and then rented a car and traveled north through the Highlands to the Isle of Skye. Memories are some of the best gifts life can give you, so I wanted to document a few of our favorite places from our trip in a more noteworthy way, to give them a home outside of my mind. These pieces are intentionally rugged to match the personality and texture of Scotland and to complement the imperfect nature of the photographs. We drank too much scotch and ate too much fried fish, and I can’t wait to do it all again one day.

I documented our trip with my mom’s vintage 35mm Olympus omG from the 1970s. The fact that film requires being developed first means you’re forced to stay in the moment instead of obsessing over the perfect shot, which is precisely why I love it so much.
